Umbono Capital

Umbono Capital is a Wealth Management business that was birthed out of the Umbono Group in 2001, with a desire to create the largest black quantitative asset management business in South Africa. Old Mutual PLC bought into this vision and has made significant equity investments into Umbono Capital and its subsidiaries.

Umbono Capital currently has:

1. ZAR9bn ($1.3bn) of institutional funds under management
2. Launched a retail investment product aimed at reaching the “unbanked” population of South Africa and
3. Developed a niche stock broking business

Umbono Group retains a 24% strategic investment position in Umbono Capital.
